5 out of 5 stars stunner   October 7, 2003

I read the book just before getting married, it has helped me in all kinds of ways. The humour shines out from every page, the realism is the most startling thing, seeing oneself spring from the pages makes this a most enlightening read.
I am now learning to multitask.

3 out of 5 stars If Sherlock Holmes had read this book...   September 22, 2003

I think that if Sherlock Holmes had read this book, he'd have said. "It's obvious that we have here a couple where the wife can't drive or park a car, but on the other hand her husband is not aware that she's been sleeping with the plumber for the last few years. Elementary, Watson."

At least when I read the part when this poor guy goes on and on about women's weak sex drive, I though, yeah right, maybe if she tells you every night that she has a headache the problem isn't female sex drive, it's you.

On the other hand, I gave the book three stars because it's fun light reading, nothing more serious than a book-long Cosmopolitan article, and the cartoons are funny.

3 out of 5 stars Know that this book is popular, not empirical.   September 10, 2003

I enjoyed many of the ideas in this book but was somewhat dismayed that they were often presented as empirically supported data. The simple fact is that much of what is presented is anecdotal at best and unethical and irresponsible reporting at worst. Blurbs like, "Women sacrifice sex for marriage, and men sacrifice marriage for sex" are stale and seem like they're recycled from the misguided propoganda about men's and women's dichotomous goals that our grandparents' generation bought into. The cartoons and writing style help the reader to engage, and plenty of the authors' hypotheses are novel and stimulate thought, but the next edition should clarify that these are, in fact, hypotheses, and shouldn't be accepted as evidence that different human behaviors are so easily explained by gender differences.

1 out of 5 stars No, no, no, no   August 4, 2003

This is not a good book and while it does have a light side to it, it will certainly not help your relationship if you are trying to seek equality and companionship. Basically women don't like sex and men are trying to get laid - please, biggest load of rubbish I've ever had the misfortune of coming across.

5 out of 5 stars Read & Learn !!!   July 8, 2003

If you think you know everything there is to know about your partner, think again! This book is brilliant! It opens your eyes for things you did not see, it makes you understand why things are the way they are ... We ARE different - women & men (thank God), equally good / brilliant. There is no score, "one sex better than the other" - we are just different. Read this book and understand WHY you think your partner has been SO "difficult" during your relationship, or even understand why YOU have! I wish I had this book when I met my husband 14 years ago - it would have made life much easier at the beginning. Do yourself a favour, buy this book & read it. I promise certain things will fall into place - whether you are male or female ;-)
