Handy and very useful February 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When you have seen people struggling with larger maps of Venice you start to appreciate the virtues of this popout map which, when folded away, is roughly the size of a postcard.
On the reverse of the cover is a map of Murano which is printed onto the card.
As you open out the map, you are immediately presented with a map of the Venetian Lagoon to the left and the waterbus service to the right - again printed onto the card. The waterbus service map is useful for getting a general overview of the service but you will need to supplement this with an up-to-date guide (which was given to us free with our ticket purchase) to check on the number of each service. These are reputed to change periodically and we certainly found that one service which we required had been renumbered.
When you then open up the left-hand side, you get one of the popout maps. It is roughly four times the area of the map cover and appears like a bit of clever origami! This is the map of Greater Venice. This would probably be my one reservation about the map. If you are planning to explore the outlying areas such as the Cannaregio, Castello and Dorsoduro then you will probably need to supplement this map with a larger and more detailed map.
On opening the right-hand side, you get the other popout map of the Grand Canal. The map is centred upon San Marco. It is clear, detailed and appears very accurate. This map alone justifies the purchase.
The great beauty of this map is that you can simply slip it into a pocket before wandering around Venice. Even if you decide to buy a larger map, this is well worth considering as a supplement to it for those times when you don't want to have a bulky map with you.
Venice Popout Map January 14, 2003 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
Brilliant. Just returned from a weekend there and this was an excellent map. The wider area is covered on the left side with close detail on the right. Folded away neatly every time. Although many people in Venice spoke English for asking directions, I didn't feel too touristy breaking out this map often. Good too, that the major sights are marked on it.and also around the edges, to help you identify what to see. But do pick up a Vaparetto (water taxi) map from the tourist office as these are not marked on this map, as it's often a lot quicker to catch one of these, if you are limited in time.
In your pocket Venice December 5, 2001 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
Although small this is perfect for keeping in your pocket at all times when you are walking around the city. Going to find a restaurant in the evening it was easier to carry this map rather than weighty books / guides. We ended up giving ours to some backpacking Australians we met the night before we left when they became fascinated with it in the restaurant. Excellent price for a great little map.
