Specific Application of NLP May 26, 2007 This book appears to be a specific application of NLP; therefore if you have read or are experienced with the use of NLP then there is little new in this book. That said if you have not read or are experienced in the use of NLP and you want to understand better what people really mean or how people may interpret what you are saying then this book is for you. The explanations are simple and any technical terms are clear explained.
On the sleeve and in the description of this book there is a long list of promised 'How to's' giving the impression that the book will expressly detail how to achieve the desired outcome. What you will actually get is the skills to achieve that outcome leaving you to apply them as required. The examples in the book that do match the `how to` list are very specify and it will take time and practise to apply the skills in every situation.
The body language section is a distillation of Allen Pease `Body Language' book. If you want to learn about body language and the connections between talking and body language then I would recommend purchasing Allen's "Body Language" book as well
Improve your personal relationships and your life! December 8, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
What a good book! It's short enough to read cover to cover and I found that unlike most books of it's type I didn't get bored doing so. The advice for how to deal with situations is presented in a very accessible way. The explanations are straightforward and accompanied by relevant examples. The book guides the reader through various 'difficult' scenarios (e.g. starting up conversations, keeping them going, dealing with criticism, avoiding being manipulated etc.) in a way which seems designed to gradually build confidence. If you want to improve your self confidence and/or your relationships at home or at work I think that you will find ideas in this book to help.
How to understand what people are really saying and why February 15, 2003 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I have read other books from Allan Pease and this one is just as good. It Shows how to decode a wide range of everyday signals, so you can get the message or intentions a speaker is really conveying, whether intentionally or not. Covers: How to read between the lines How to ask questions that promote conversation How to listen your way to popularity and success. How to handle criticism constructively.....
